Fluorescence insitu hybridisation in Leukaemias

04 October 2018, 09:00 - 04 October 2018, 16:00
St johns Medical college, Bangalore, St johns Medical College
Bangalore, Karnataka India

Fluorescent In-Situ Hybridization is a powerful tool that has provided significant advances in the diagnosis and management of hematological malignancies and solid tumors. F.I.S.H. can be applied to detect genetic abnormalities such as gene fusions, loss of a chromosomal region or a whole chromosome or to monitor the progression of an aberration and serves as a technique that can help in both the diagnosis and suggesting prognostic outcomes.

F.I.S.H. can be used to detect genetic abnormalities on both metaphases and Interphase cells. The objective of this workshop is to introduce the technicalities of F.I.S.H for leukemia samples, BCR/ABL the Philadelphia translocation, t(9;22)(q34;q11) probes, PML/RARA APML samples, Monosomy 7 for AML, MLL breakapart all these FISH probes for leukemia samples help in diagnosis and also in monitoring the disease. These probes are specific probes and are commercially available from Cytocell Inda Pvt Ltd.

In the genomic era with personalized medicine and NextGen sequencing, cytogenetics is still regarded by clinicians. The detection of chromosomal abnormalities using FISH has been associated with faster diagnosis and treatment options for patients
